Meet Giles Starkey

Meet Giles Starkey, our BVI-based pre-owned yacht specialist for Horizon Yacht Sales. Giles Starkey has a lifetime of history with the BVI, a grand love for sailing, and endless tales of life on the sea!  Giles was born in the British Virgin Islands, Tortola and went to school there as well as in the UK.  After finishing school, he went on to complete his RYA Yacht Master in Cowes, Isle Of Wight at the United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA).

Giles learnt to sail at the young age of 9, mostly in Optimist dinghies and later he joined the BVI Optimist National Team and raced in quite a few international regattas. He then progressed to sailing and racing Lasers. He went on to take a US Sailing instructional course and received his certification and accepted a job as a sailing instructor at the Bitter End Sailing School in beautiful Virgin Gorda, BVI.

In 2011, Giles became Customer Service Manager at Horizon Yacht Charters in the BVI. He was involved at all levels in the day-to-day management of the Horizon fleet, keeping the boats in top condition as well as looking after the guests as best as possible. After all, that is what Horizon Yacht Charters is famous for.

Giles then went on to become a Yacht Broker for Horizon in early 2018 and attends international boat shows in the US for the company.  His in-depth knowledge of yachts and seeing clients day in, day out for so many years has given him insider knowledge that helps him put clients together with their perfect yacht.  Giles is a very successful yacht broker for Horizon and his clients all praise his impeccable service.  See this great client testimonial below to give you an idea of how much he goes “above and beyond” for his clients.
