This Bavaria C42 is from the new C-Line performance range from Bavaria Yachts. She was unveiled at the Dusseldorf Boat show in January 2020 and is another example of Bavaria’s continuing advancement in yacht design. She brings a redesigned hull with chines, a new V shaped bow and extra interior volume and comfort.
- New hull shape with hull chines, better sailing performance and additional beam aft.
- New V shaped bow, narrow at the waterline but increased volume above giving a huge forward cabin
- New transom and steering seat design, self tacking jib, full-width saloon table and king size beds below are a few choice features
- Available in two and three cabin, and one or two head formats
Fresh and functional deck design
The bow area and side deck provide an unusually large amount of space for a sailing yacht of this size.
The cockpit, with its ergonomically formed L-shaped seating bench, gives extra comfort but also allows easy access to the main sail controls and winches.
The helm seat allows the helm to face forward square on which gives a very comfortable, fatigue-free, seating position. No twisting or straining involved when going to windward, reaching or sailing downwind.
The helm seats flip up when at anchor to give broader opening to the full width transom platform, so boarding from the dinghy is simple. The cockpit table houses the chart-plotter which is easy to see from either helm, and it also incorporates a cold box and drinks holders. Plus it is solid and offers handholds and support when the boat is healing.
Sailing performance
With a deep keel of 6.9 feet, chines along the aft section, perfectly balanced twin rudders and hulls made using the lighter Bavaria VacuTec infusion technology, she is clearly designed to give a superior sailing experience. The new V-shaped bow is narrow at the waterline giving a finer entry, but broadens upwards towards the deck like a V to give more volume forward.
The standard deeper keel works in harmony with the increased sail area, so that although there is more power in the rig it converts into forward motion rather than excessive healing.
A self‐tacking jib runs across the coach roof ahead of the mast and offers easier tacking and tighter sheeting angles for upwind performance. An adjustable backstay is standard on the new C42 allowing fine tuning of the twin spreader rig.
All the sail controls are led back to the jammers and two easily accessible winches at the back of the coach roof. You have perfect visibility of all sails, crew and navigation equipment from either helm.
Modern look and increased volume below
The innovative hull design opens up new dimensions on board the BAVARIA C42 below deck as well. The new V-shaped bow allows a much larger forward cabin, great headroom and space for a king size bed. Large hull windows provide generous light and there is no compromise in storage space.
The aft hull chines give longer waterline when healed and enhanced sailing performance and the extra beam has the advantage internally of greater space and comfort in the aft cabins.
Layout below is versatile with two or three cabins and two or three heads options. The saloon is clean and modern with comfortable U-shaped seating to starboard and an additional settee to port that doubles as a seat to a forward facing Nav station. The saloon table is innovatively designed and opens out the full width of the boat.
The galley is well equipped with good storage. Elongated port lights and hull ports means the whole area is light and has a modern, airy and stylish feel.
