Horizon Yacht Sales has pre-ordered an owner’s version 3 cabin 2020 Nautitech 40 Open available in February 2020. The purchase of this award-winning catamaran can be secured with a 10% deposit now. She will be exhibited at the Miami boat show, February 13th- 17th 2020, and she will then sail south to join the Horizon Yacht Charters fleet based in Nanny Cay Marina, Tortola, BVI. Historically, the 3-cabin version has matched or even outperformed the 4-cabin version, so here is a chance to have an owner’s layout and an excellent revenue stream. The owner has the option of a split revenue/ active management programme or a guaranteed income plan. Bookings are already being taken on this boat, assuring you of a successful turn-key program. Contact Robin Hodges for more details.
The 2020 Nautitech 40 Open Mark 1 was a game-changer, winning multiple awards. Sail Magazine 2016 Best Boat in Class, Cruising World best multihull cruiser for 2016, and now the Mark 2 Nautitech 40 open is a nominee for 2019 SAIL magazine ‘best boat’ award.
Horizon Yacht Sales presents the new 3 cabin owners version 2020 Nautitech 40 Open by Nautitech Catamarans, with larger hull windows, distinctive grey Gelcoat detailing on the coachroof, the aft-facing galley and many upgrades including generator, air conditioning, leather upholstery, cockpit enclosure, sail upgrades, MCA category 4 compliance with all safety equipment, full charter inventory, ready to charter and cruise.
The 2020 Nautitech 40 Open harnesses innovative design features that bring together onboard comfort with superb sailing performance. You can read Sail Magazine’s review of the Open 40 here.
The 2020 Nautitech 40 Open construction is first class; different density foam cores are used, in combination with specific laminate specifications depending on the application and loading in different parts of the structure. This produces a very stiff, but impressively low displacement, so critical in a catamaran.
When comparing a typical coach roof helm position versus the Nautitech Open 40 outboard helm position, the following should be considered: With twin helms on the hulls, (both with biminis on this boat) you have a lower centre of gravity, reducing pitching moment; you are driving the boat from a position where you have good visibility forward and aft, and you are able to see all four corners of the boat. You are always helming from the favoured side, and with the throttles at both helm positions having been included on this boat, you are always right next to the dock you are coming alongside. Changing command from one set of throttles to the other is as simple as pressing a button.
Both helms are next to the cockpit, so the helmsperson is in touch with the rest of the crew. With class beating bridge deck clearance and an impressive fineness of hull ratio, it is no wonder the Nautitech 40 Open is so comfortable offshore. High aspect rudders set aft of the props, means even in a following sea there is no prop cavitation. The high aspect rudders give feedback more akin to a monohull than a cruising cat, and the relatively deep draft (for a cat) of 4ft 5”, enables this cat to outpoint the best of the rest. With completely sacrificial keels (she will still sail safely and well with no keels) and watertight bulkheads fore and aft, plus a Divinicell foam core, this is a very safe boat.
The 40 “Open” name relates to the Marc Lombard vision of a sailing/living space unlike any other. The saloon has an aft-facing galley, fridge, and a saloon table to seat 6. Two large coach roof hatches provide ventilation at anchor (fans and air conditioning are included in this boat’s specification). This yacht also benefits from a convertible teak cockpit table and a convertible saloon table. This is the 3 double cabin owners version/ 2 head and shower, where the port side of the yacht is the owner’s stateroom with en suite head and shower.
Sailing the 40 Open
Then you go sailing! A fathead main (which does not have to be clipped and unclipped from the track) is hoisted effortlessly with the electric winch ( included on this boat), and as you bear off, the Solent jib is unfurled and sets beautifully on its self-tacking track.
In 18 knots of breeze, the 2020 Nautitech 40 Open will go upwind better than 40 degrees apparent, with 8 knots boat speed, unheard of for a cruising cat without daggerboards. This 40 Open comes with a bowsprit and 70 sq.m gennaker, which is as easily set as a furling genoa. This sail can be held to 60 apparent in light air, and to 120 apparent in medium air, enabling boat speeds in the mid-teens. Ask us about special-ordering a 130sq.m asymmetric Quantum spinnaker, and as the editors of Sail Magazine and Cruising World discovered, you can be sailing at 7.5 knots, in 7.5 knots of breeze, double-handed!
This Nautitech 40 Open is an exceptionally well thought out catamaran, with a truly remarkable turn of speed, responsive handling to match, and her 3-cabin layout makes her very appealing to charter management and to the owner. This is a yacht to get truly excited about.
